We are a Muslim society, governed by the Qur'an and shaped entirely by its principles. But membership does not require that you share our faith. What it requires is your genuine agreement to live under the laws and membership contract that our society is built upon, and your willingness to conduct yourself accordingly, regardless of what you personally believe about God, the Qur'an, or matters of faith.
Faith Is Not a Condition of Membership
We do not require anyone to convert, profess belief, or participate in worship in order to become a member. The Qur'an itself is clear that there is no compulsion in matters of faith, and we take that principle seriously. You are welcome to build a life here as a non-Muslim, to hold your own beliefs privately, and to be treated with the same fairness, dignity, and protection under our laws as any other member of our society. What we ask is not belief, but agreement, a willingness to live within the foundations that governs everyone here, Muslim and non-Muslim alike.
What We Do Require
What membership does require is real and unambiguous: acceptance of Freeport's laws, derived from the Qur'an, as the governing framework for our shared life, and a genuine commitment to abide by them. This includes our economic system, our standards of justice and conduct, and the authority structure, with the Imam as head of state and the Administration carrying out the practical work of governance. Members are expected to conduct themselves honestly, to deal fairly with others, to respect the rights and property of fellow members, and to contribute to the wellbeing of the society they are part of, in keeping with the same standards we hold ourselves to as a matter of faith.
This is what we mean by our membership contract: not a demand that you believe as we believe, but an agreement that, having chosen to join our society, you will live according to the terms it operates under, just as anyone joining any society agrees to live under its laws.
Why This Matters to Us
We have structured membership this way because we believe justice, as the Qur'an describes it, is not something owed only to believers. It is owed to every person, and a society built on Qur'anic principles should be able to extend fairness, protection, and welcome to anyone willing to live within its terms in good faith. At the same time, we are honest about what Freeport is. This is not a secular society that happens to have Muslim leadership; it is a theocratic society, governed by the Qur'an as final authority, and membership means knowingly and willingly entering into life under that foundation.
We would rather welcome members who understand clearly what they are joining and choose it with open eyes, than attract people who are unprepared for the kind of society Freeport actually is.
Who Freeport Is For
Freeport is for those seeking to build their lives within a society ordered around Qur'anic justice. Whether that search comes from faith, from conviction about how a just society ought to be structured, or simply from a desire to live somewhere governed by consistent, transparent, and impartial principles. Muslims who follow the Qur'an alone, without reliance on hadith or later tradition, will find a society built entirely around that same commitment. Non-Muslims who share our vision of justice, honesty, and fair governance, and who are willing to live under the laws that flow from it, are equally welcome to make Freeport their home.
Joining Freeport
If you believe in what we are building here, and are ready to commit to the laws and membership contract that hold our society together, we invite you to take the next step and reach out to learn more about becoming a member. Membership is not something we take lightly, and we do not expect you to either. But for those who are ready, we would be glad to welcome you into this life with us.
